School is cancelled Friday 2/8 due to snow.
As
Valentine’s Day quickly approaches I would like to take a moment and ask
everyone to please be aware of student allergies and our wellness policy.
It
is VERY important to us that we encourage healthy eating and we would like to
encourage parents to avoid sending in food, especially of low nutritional
value.
Additionally,
we must be aware of any students with allergies. Allergies range from peanut, tree nut to
dyes, just to name a few. As a result
we ask that you please be cognizant of anything you are sending in as we are an
Allergy Aware School.
If
you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact us, your
child’s teacher or the school nurse.
If
you are just not sure and you really want to send something in, prizes such as
pencils etc. are just as meaningful.
We
appreciate your careful attention to this matter!
Read
Together Challenge
As part of the Read Across
America Challenge we are once again encouraging students to read at least 15
minutes independently at home. Students will
be provided with paper Dr. Seuss Hats. If
they have read for 15 mins. parents should sign the hat and send them in. We are hanging them up in the halls and our
goal is to have a row of hats all the way across our halls until we meet up
with MKG in the middle. Please help us achieve
our goal and encourage your child to read!
Tech Committee
On February 12th from 6-7:30 there is a Technology Committee Meeting at NMS. The technology committee is laying out a plan for the future of the Middleborough Public Schools as it relates to technology. If you are interested at all I would encourage you to attend!
Mrs. Sullivan's 4th Grade Science Experiments
I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs. Sullivan who showed me a cool science project her kids have been working on. Her class used the Scientific Method to answer the question- Are all salt crystals the same?
They made solutions of sea salt and Epsom salt, observed the crystals form and recorded their observations. They report the sea salt crystals began to form first and were smaller because the solution evaporated quickly. After a week the Epsom salt crystals looked like ice or plastic had formed over the top and all the solution still had not evaporated.
They found their answer, they do not all form the same, but now they have some new questions ;like- what other kinds of salt are there and is all the salt in the world's oceans the same? I will let you know if they find the answer!
Great job guys!
