Go Gold!!

This morning, the District Emergency Response Team, with assistance from the Middleboro Police and Fire Departments as well as First Responders from the surrounding towns of Middleboro visited all classrooms to talk to our students about school safety and to train all classrooms in the ABC's of emergency response.

Similar to practicing fire drills, preparing students and teachers for all possible emergencies is an essential component to ensuring safety and security while here at HBB. During this training Police, Firefighters and Administrators visited each class and spoke to students about what to do in the case of an emergency and practiced a variety of possible responses depending on the situation. In all situations, the most important aspect of this approach is for the students to listen to the teachers instructions.

Overall the kids and teachers did great and we are very appreciative of all the First Responders and Administrators that came out to speak to our kids. We will be practicing again later in the year, similar to the way we practice and prepare for fire drills. Should you have any questions or concerns after speaking with your child please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Open House, Picture Day and Bounce Pages!!

Open House
Open House is almost here and we hope you will be able to make it.  Open House is planned for September 29th from 6:30 – 8.  Open House is a great opportunity to learn about the curriculum, see your child’s classroom and meet the teachers and staff.  Please remember that Open House is not a time to discuss individual concerns about your child with the teacher.  Should you have specific concerns as it relates to your child we ask that you please reach out via email or phone.  We will also have sign up sheets available for Parent Teacher Conferences, which are coming in November.  Parent Teacher Conferences is the time to discuss individual concerns and to find out how your child is doing.

This year at Open House we will also have a One Night  Only Scholastic Book Fair!  The Book Fair will be running all night long and is a great way to pick up some new books.

Lastly, there will be a presentation at 7:30 in the Auditorium from the District Emergency Response Team....or DERT for short.  The DERT Team will be discussing safety and emergency planning as it related to HBB.  See you all there!

Bounce Pages
Sometimes the way we teach math is very different from the way we all learned.  We know this new approach works because our kids are doing things mathematically in 3rd grade that we used to do in 5th grade!  It can be challenging, however, as a parent to help your child.  If you find yourself confused at times or wanting to learn more please check out Bounce Pages.  Bounce Pages is a great new APP that allows you to take a picture of your child's Envisions 2.0 Homework and watch 2 videos connected to the lesson of the day.  There is no sign up required.  Check it out!

Great Week!!

We had a great first full week here at HBB!!!!  We started off each morning with Community Meeting for each great and I am so excited about the attitude our students have as we begin the 2016-2017 school year.  We talked a lot in our first meeting about the importance of believing in yourself, working hard, setting goals and never giving up.  We also talked about the fact that your brain is your most important muscle and if you work hard at things you struggle with, YOU CAN GET SMARTER!!  I was very impressed with how the students responded and we have all the students begin the process of thinking about and setting goals for themselves this year.  I am confident that this is going to be a great year!!

Open House
Please mark your calendars for September 29th and plan on joining us for our annual Open House from 6:30 – 8! This is a great way to see your child’s classroom and meet the staff. We will have sign ups for Parent Teacher Conferences available during Open House and we hope to see you all ther3!

Great First Week!

What a great first week!  If this week was any indication of the year ahead we are extremely excited because things went great.  The kids seem to be really excited about all the changes which range from an updated math program, a new library, a 6 day rotation for specials and the addition of Computers as a special.  All in all it was a great first week and we are looking forward to the rest of the year!

Team Anderson
We would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Jen Anderson, one of our HBB Family Members and let her know that we are thinking about her as she continues her fight against Leukemia.  Be strong!!

Bat Run
Don't forget about the Bat Run which is scheduled for Sunday September 18th at 10 am in memory of Jesse!  We hope to see you there!!

Student Arrival
Please remember that the doors at HBB do not open until 8:40.  Students should not be dropped off early because they are not supervised until the day starts.  Also, when dropping off in the morning please stay in the line of cars, do not drop off and then pass everyone else.  If you need to come in to the building we ask that you enter the parking lot through one of the other entrances to park, do not join the drop off line.  We are trying to ensure a smooth process and we appreciate your assistance.

Breakfast
This year we would like to encourage all students to eat a healthy breakfast every morning.  Did you know breakfast is available to ALL interested students?  If you have a hard time getting your kids out the door in the morning maybe one solution is to have them eat their breakfast with us.  We have allotted time each morning for students to go to the cafeteria to get their breakfast.  If you are interested in learning more please give us a call.

Community Meeting
Community Meeting for each grade this year will take place first thing in the morning and students will report directly to the auditorium on their scheduled date.  We will continue to teach the Social Thinking Curriculum during these meetings and we have some fun things planned for our meetings this year.  Our first Community Meetings begin next week.  Grade 1- Monday, Grade 2 - Tuesday, Grade 3 - Wednesday, Grade 4 - Thursday and Grade 5 - Friday.  Please remind your child that they will report directly to the auditorium in the morning of their Community Meeting and please refer to the calendar for specific dates of all future community meetings.

That's it for this week, have a great weekend!
