Our PTA Rocks!

I hope everyone weathered the storm ok.  This past Friday was our HBB Big Blast event and it was a great success.  Thank you to all our PTA members who made this event possible.  I continue to be impressed by our PTA.  Their support and overall ability to organize events such as this are impressive.  Thank you so much, you all really help make HBB a special place!

Before I get to the pictures please make not that the Spooktakular event planned for tomorrow has been canceled.

Costumes and Student Council

As I sit down to write this I am anxiously awaiting the start of our HBB Big Blast Event!  I am also looking forward to next week and I have a few reminders for everyone.

Halloween
While we recognize Halloween as a fun holiday that many of our students look forward to we ask that students not wear costumes and especially masks to school on Wednesday.  We are not trying to take the fun out of school.  We are simply honoring what has been past practice here and what is common practice elsewhere as costumes can be very distracting and we have a full day of school.  We appreciate your understanding.

Candy Drive
Please remember our Candy Drive!  We are trying to beat last years donation total by taking any of that unwanted or unneeded candy off your hands.  All donations will go to the children at the Jimi Fund Clinic at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  We have a donation box just outside the main office.  Thank you in advance for any and all donations!

Student Council
This past week we hosted our 2nd Student Ccouncil meeting.  At the meeting all representatives heard  speeches from our 5th grade candidates for Student Council Leaders and nominations followed.  The next day we hosted our Administrative Round table and began our discussions regarding Student Council and ways in which we can make HBB the best school it can be.  CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW STUDENT COUNCIL LEADERS!

I hope to see you all at the HBB Big Blast tonight!  Have a great weekend!

Character Word of the Week, Candy and Dioramas

Before we get to the winners of the Character Word of the Week award I want to let everyone know that we will be hosting a Candy Drive here at HBB.  We have a bin in the Main Lobby for donations of unwanted Halloween Candy.  All donations will be given to the children at the Jimi Fund Clinic at Dana Farber Cancer Center.  Please help us collect as much candy as we can!!!!!!

CORRECTION.....Please note that our calendar had the wrong times listed for the HBB Big Blast this coming Friday.  The times are 6-8:30...the calendar has been corrected.  Also remember that discounted tickets will be available at the Parent Teacher Conferences.

I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs. Martin's 4th grade class today as they wrapped up their presentations of their Book Report Dioramas.  All the projects are on display so check them out this week at Parent Teacher Conferences......Great work guys!

Integrity and Game Night

Hello HBB!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who made our first annual Family Game Night a success.  I had the opportunity to participate with my family and we had a great time.  We are looking forward to making this an annual tradition here at HBB.  (see below for some pics of the night courtesy of Mrs. DiStefano)

Together!!!

It sure didn't feel like a short week!  We had some great things going on here this week and we have even more coming up but there is one coming soon that I would like to draw particular attention to.......parent teacher conferences.

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for October 24th and 25th and if you have not yet signed up for an appointment with your child's teacher please do so.  This is an opportunity for you to find out how your child is progressing thus far in school and it is also an important time to learn ways in which you can support your child's learning in school.

I want to remind and ask everyone to please come to these meetings with an understanding that we are all equally responsible for the education of our children.  We have incredibly high hopes and expectations for our students and together we will get our students to where we want them to be!

BOKS

As you have read here recently BOKS was recently awarded a $5000 grant from Fallon Community Health Care.  Recently a contingent of BOKS trainers, along with Superintendent Weiss traveled up to the studios of FOX Boston and they were presented with the check on air.  In case you missed the segment here is a link for you to view the story online.

Family Game Night and Character Word of the Week Winners!

Attention all families!!!!!

This Friday night is our first ever Family Game Night.  During this fun, interactive game show style event families and grades will compete against each other by answering questions, participating in challenges and other team activities.

This is a great way to get out on a Friday night and spend time together as a family.  The cost is $3 per person or $10 per family.  Food will be available and you can also shop the book fair while you are here.  There are 2 shows to choose from..... 5:30 or 6:30.

If you are interested in attending you can send money in with your child or purchase tickets at the door but remember, there is limited seating available for each show.

Butterflies!!

Over the past couple of weeks a few of our grade two classes have been learning about the life-cycle of butterflies.  I had an excellent opportunity to learn more about butterflies from Mrs. Quinn's class when I paid them a visit yesterday.  They will be releasing their butterflies within the next couple of days.  Great job guys!

Wrapping up the week

We have wrapped another great week here at HBB and we want to wish everyone a great long weekend.  We hope everyone finds time to relax and recharge this weekend.  I just want to let everyone know about a couple of things as we close the week.

Target

Thank you to everyone who got out and voted on Facebook!  We received a gift card today for $225 that will go a long way to helping us with our Burkland's Best School Store!

Book Fair

The Book Fair is always one of my favorite times of the year because it is a great time to remind everyone about the importance of reading.  Children who read and are read to at home do better in school!

If you are a parent and unsure how to best help your child to be successful in school and in life, please know that reading to your child and encouraging them to read is one of the most powerful and influential things you can do.  Please help us help your child reach their full potential by encouraging them to read!

Unity Day

Wed. October 10th we are asking all students to wear orange to show our unity in standing up to bullying here at HBB.  Please look in the Tuesday Folder next week for more information or go to

www.pacer.org/bullying

Have a great weekend!

Trustworthiness

Today was the first day where we recognized students who exemplified the Character Word for the Week as identified by their teacher.  Each week, on Monday, we will be awarding students who best demonstrate the Character Word of the Week.

The word of last week was Trustworthiness, which means to be worthy of confidence, reliable and dependable.

Congratulations

GREAT JOB!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!  Next weeks word is Self-Control.
