Grade 4 MCAS Long Composition Rescheduled

I just want to let everyone know that regardless of the weather, the MCAS Grade 4 Long Composition Test originally scheduled for Tuesday March 19th has been rescheduled to Monday March 25th.

This decision was made by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education because of the high likelihood that some schools in the State will be impacted by snow.  All schools in the state are required to administer the Grade 4 Long Composition Test at the same time.

I apologize for the change and I appreciate your understanding.

Bag Pipes, Irish Step Dancers and Book Club

THANK YOU to Mrs. Campbell who surprised us this morning with an excellent Bag Pipe performance to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  She was accompanied by a couple of Irish Step Dancers and all students came out in the hall to watch.  Click on the link below to watch the video on Microsoft Skydrive.

The new activities being offered during the expanded learning block have been going great.  Here is a picture of the students in Mrs. Corey's 3rd grade literature book club.  They had just started reading the book Absolutely Lucy which was purchased with the money we received from a grant form the National PTA.

Here are some other pictures of the kids writing their newspaper (Husky Howler), kids working on Math Through Cooking and the Community Service Project group.

Remember.....MCAS starts next week.  Lets all do our best to make sure we have good attendance  all students get a good night rest and eat a healthy breakfast.  Enjoy the weekend!

Spaghetti Supper Sold Out

Hello HBB Community!  I just have a few things to share.....

The Spaghetti Supper is sold out.  I have been informed that any orders that were received as of this morning (Thursday) are ok but anything that has come after, unfortunately, missed the deadline.

I want to thank Mrs. Delaney and the PTA who recently secured a grant for HBB .  The grant from the National PTA helped pay for the performance by BIG RYAN and also paid for a number of books which were purchased for both MKG and HBB.  The books purchased included Absolutely Lucy, The Fairy Tale Detectives and The Throne of Fire.....THANK YOU!!!!!!

And as promised, here is a picture of the pledge which all 1st and 2nd grade students signed after the Power of One Anti-Bully assemblies.  The pledge will be hanging in the main lobby so be sure to check it out next time you are here.  Have a great day!

Power on One
Today we had the folks from the Power of One here for an anti-bullying assembly for grades 1 and 2. The assembly was great and the students learned how to recognize a bully and what to do about it.  They also learned that the power of one is the power that each individual student has to stop bullying so we can make HBB a bully free zone.  In Fact, all of our students who attended the assembly are signing a Bully Prevention Oath which will be hanging in the main lobby.  When all students are done signing the oath we will take a picture and share.   The oath is....
 I will not bully others.
I will not stand by while others are bullied.
I will report and deal with bullying wherever I see it...
...because I have the Power of One!

Fire Prevention Assemblies
A big thank you goes out to the Middleborough Fire Department as they took time out of their very busy schedule last week  to teach our first and second graders about Fire Safety.

Why we love HBB
To celebrate the 100th day of school all classes held nominations and a vote on the three things they love best about HBB.  Each class then put their top three on a heart and the hearts were all hung up in the Cafeteria.  I am impressed to see the variety and amount of things listed that students love about HBB.  If you zoom in on the picture you can see some of the things listed, and I am pretty proud to see that Mr. Gobeil and I made the list!

Colonial Tools
Again thank you to our PTA for bringing in a representative from Heritage Museum and Gardens to speak with our 5th grade students about the tools and ways of life during Colonial Times in America.  I had the opportunity to join one of the classes today and the kids were really enjoying the presentation.

Character Word of the Week Winners
The word of the week for last week was cooperation.  The following students have demonstrated the ability to work well with others.......Congratulations!!!!!

That is it for now....have a great day.........................................

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES CANCELED

Parent teacher conferences scheduled for tonight are canceled due to the weather!!!!
I apologize for the inconvenience.  If you had a conference scheduled for this evening your child's teacher will be in touch with you to reschedule.  The forecast calls for the precipitation to change over to snow and we want to avoid having teachers and parents travelling home at night in the snow.  Thank you for your understanding.

THANK YOU MR. BOND!

Before I share the winners from this week's Character Word of the Week I want to send out a BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Adam Bond who donated his time to put on an incredible Magic Show today for the class at each grade that collected the most BOX TOPS.  The kids had a great time and we really appreciate his time and we appreciate the PTA for making it all happen!

One more thing before sharing this week's winners.  Please take a moment and click on the new Read Across America section of our website to see all the great pictures from Dr. Seuss Day.  Mrs. DiStefano is a great photographer and she captured some great images.  It is definitely worth checking out if you have some time.

And now on to our Character Word of the Week Winners.  The word for last week was Adaptability and the following students have demonstrated they are flexible, versatile and they have the ability to go with the flow.  Great Job and Congratulations!!!!!
