At the moment I am sitting here writing this I have a whole school anxiously awaiting the start of the HBB Big Blast! I love how excited the whole school gets every year and I am so appreciative for this event. The Big Blast is such a great way to get the whole school community together and it has become a great tradition here at HBB and I get wait to get it started! In the meantime, here are some important notices for this week and some cool pictures!
With Parent Teacher Conferences right around the corner (Nov 15th 4-6:30 and Nov 16th 6-8:30) we thought it would be a good time to talk about the importance of PT Conferences.
When it comes to your child, we all have something in common: we all want your child to do well! When parents and teachers have an opportunity to talk we have a great opportunity to share essential information about your child’s strengths, needs and areas of concern. In order to ensure an effective Parent Teacher Conference there are a few things you can do as a parent to be prepared.
- Review your child’s work.
- Talk with your child about their concerns and how they think they are doing in school
- Make a list of questions before hand
- Think about the ways you would like to be involved in your child’s education and the things you do to support learning at home.
During the meeting remember, it should be a two-way conversation. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! The teachers here at HBB want your child to be successful and it can be tough to communicate everything in just a 10 min conference, so don’t be afraid to ask for a time to follow up through email or phone call.
In closing please remember that our goal is to ensure a solid home-school partnership. Research shows that when teachers and parents work together we increase the likelihood of success for your child. We are all in this together!
Writing Challenge
Please encourage your child to take the HBB Writing Challenge! For this year’s challenge students are asked to select a book to read and then write a book review about the book (see book review forms on the right side of the blog). Students who read a book and complete a review will receive their writing bead for this year. All reviews will be looked at closely and those deemed exceptional will be asked to read their review during lunch and those students will also receive their Super Writer Bead!!

1st Grade Literacy Parade
This morning we hosted our first Literacy Character Parade for Grade 1 students. All grade 1 students had the opportunity to select a book, write a book report and earn their Writing Bead. Additionally, students who participated came to school dressed as there favorite character from a book and we had a parade throughout the school!
Student Leadership
Thank you to our Student Council Leaders for planting mums and making the front of the school look a little bit nicer!!
3rd Grade Readers and Writers
Today I had the great pleasure of visiting Mrs. Card's 3rd grade class to hear some of her students make a unique presentation on Walt Disney. They did a great job and I was very proud of their work....great job!
